You read that right. They aren't giving up. Erick Beall, Store Manager of the flagship Digital Ciggz location on Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa, CA and one of the most locally-vocal advocates for meaningful and comprehensive vapor product regulation states:
"A very likely outcome of the February 2007 grandfather date FDA proposes to apply to e-cigarettes would be a ban of all E-cigs, Tanks, Attys, Clearomizers, Tips, Wicks, and ALL E-liquids," he continues, "The desire for a safer alternative..[to combustible tobacco cigarettes]…has led to massive growth in e-cigarette sales. The private sector has an incentive to meet this demand, and if it’s done right, we could have a self-funding public health revolution, with the potential to save the health-care system billions of dollars by reducing the prevalence of diseases caused by inhaling smoke.”
Mr. Beall goes on to state, “Such a revolution in public health would be among the biggest in history. It would work with, rather than against, the market to make combustible tobacco obsolete. To maximize the benefits of innovation, we need fit-for-purpose regulations aimed at harnessing market forces for the greatest possible reduction in smoking-related diseases. Governments have a responsibility to enact progressive regulations that allow citizens to reduce their exposure to dangerous products, when viable alternatives become available. What should be the blinding reality in all of this is that it is not often that we can empower entrepreneurs to save lives, while creating jobs, paying taxes and very possibly creating new, world-class American companies. Since when is there a problem with doing well by doing good?”
Mr. Beall is calling on all of his customers, their friends and family members that have directly or indirectly benefited from the success of vapor products to take immediate action. The FDA is currently in a period where they are open to public comments before legislation is passed and he stresses that it is vital each and every vaper submits a comment before the forum with the FDA comes to a close on August 8th.
Michael Mullins, owner of Digital Ciggz, is offering his customers a discount for commenting with the FDA. Every customer who comments, receives a unique tracking code and upon presenting their code in his stores will receive 20% off their purchase with a couple exceptions.
Mullins and Beall expect that community members and customers will embrace the discount in exchange for action against the FDA and hope it will further the cause, and save their customers’ freedom to vape. Their hope – as is the rest of the vaping community – is that vapor products and other very low risk alternatives to cigarettes will continue to rapidly improve and will fundamentally transform the marketplace and the history of public health.
